David B. Hoyt, M.D. Welcome to UC Irvine’s Department of Surgery Web site. The department’s highly skilled and trained surgeons provide a team approach for the evaluation and management of surgical conditions. Our department faculty members are repeatedly listed in “The Best Doctors in America,” “Guide to America’s Top Surgeons,” and “Consumer’s Guide to Top Doctors.” As a result, UC Irvine Medical Center serves as a referral center for community physicians who have patients with complex conditions. In addition, our surgeons are national leaders in basic and applied research. Their scientific research and discoveries have been responsible for many new technologies and therapies in healthcare. The Department of Surgery works closely together with the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center and the Cardiovascular Center to coordinate clinical care, education and research. Today, we offer most procedures using minimally invasive techniques, including use of single incisions and use of robotic technology. The advanced imaging and surgical systems in the new UC Irvine Douglas Hospital allow our patients to undergo procedures that are not only more efficient – but also less traumatizing to organs and tissues. The expertise of our surgeons, combined with leading-edge technologies, translates into shorter hospital stays and better outcomes for our patients. Our outstanding surgeons are also full time faculty members who are dedicated in training the “doctors of tomorrow” – our medical students, residents and fellows. In fact, UC Irvine is ranked among the top 50 U.S. medical schools for research, according to US News & World Report rankings. Doctors in residency program gain vital experience in rotation programs at UC Irvine Medical Center and other sites. In fact, UC Irvine Medical Center is Orange County’s only university hospital. It is one of California’s largest teaching hospitals for one of the state’s five UC medical schools. In the Department of Surgery at UC Irvine, we are driven by the principle, “When you see one of us, you see all of us.” Our focus is the individual patient, and we provide the safest and most comprehensive care to each of our patients. |
