Surgery residents and medical students will experience a robust transplant surgery education. Students will participate in all aspects of patient care in the outpatient clinic, emergency department, operating room, intensive care unit, and ward. Experience is gained with hepatic and pancreatic malignancy, biliary stricture, immunosuppression, and transplantation surgery. The resident will gain experience in the critical care aspects of patients on the service. Technical/procedural experience is gained by performance of ICU bedside procedures, including pulmonary artery catheterization, arterial line insertion, paracentesis, renal and pancreatic transplantation, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, as well as assisting with complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic cases.
