UC Irvine provides a comprehensive range of transplant services, including living donor kidney donations. This allows patients who need transplants to receive a kidney directly from a relative or friend, rather than having to wait for a deceased donor organ to become available. Currently, most transplanted kidneys come from deceased donors, but kidneys donated by living donors function better and last longer than deceased donor kidneys.
